| 裏面の説明 | Central colorized vignette depicting a full-bodied Diplodocus sauropod dinosaur standing in a lush prehistoric landscape, rendered in naturalistic greens and browns with a reflective lake, conifer trees, and mountainous terrain in the background. The color insert is framed by a raised gold-plated border decorated in low relief with additional prehistoric creatures, including a pterosaur at upper left, a theropod dinosaur at lower left, and further dinosaur figures at right, amid prehistoric foliage. The arc legend AGE OF THE DINOSAUR is inscribed in raised letters along the upper periphery within the gold border. |

The Cook Islands has issued commemorative coinage under licensing arrangements for decades, with the actual striking typically contracted to the Pobjoy Mint or similar private minters rather than any facility on the islands themselves — Cook Islands has no mint. This particular dinosaur series was part of a broader wave of gold-plated copper issues targeting the collector novelty market in the early 2010s, a format that generated significant revenue for the issuing authority while carrying essentially no monetary function.
Diplodocus itself was formally described in 1878 from Morrison Formation material collected in Colorado.
