Obverse description The obverse features the right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II in the lower left field, bearing the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait with a diademed and draped bust. To the left, the legend reads 'NIUE ISLAND' vertically and '1 DOLLAR' horizontally in the upper left corner. A color-printed reproduction of Velázquez's painting 'Las Meninas' occupies the right and upper portions of the rectangular field, depicting a group of courtly figures in an interior setting rendered in warm brown and ochre tones. A finely detailed relief of a reclining dog is shown in the lower right field in uncolored silver. The inscriptions 'ELIZABETH II' and '2011' appear along the lower edge, flanking the effigy.
