| Obverse description | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the George IV State Diadem, drop earrings, and a pearl necklace, as modelled by Raphael Maklouf. The portrait is rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair and regalia. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the upper left periphery and NIUE along the upper right, with the date 1998 placed at the lower right, all separated by small raised dots.
