Additional information

Fiji's Reserve Bank issued a wave of gold-plated commemorative dollars in the late 2000s aimed squarely at the thematic collector market — marine life, wildlife, tropical fauna. These pieces were never intended for circulation and exist purely as cabinet fodder. KM#148a is the gold-plated variant of a base type, distinguished from its silver-plated sibling by that designation suffix alone.
