| Reverse description | The reverse depicts a dramatic low-level raid scene commemorating Operation Chastise, the famous Dambusters raid of 17-18 May 1943. Two Avro Lancaster bombers are shown flying at low altitude over a breached dam wall, with a massive explosion of water erupting from the left as the structure gives way beneath them. The background is rendered in dark tones, heightening the tension of the nocturnal mission. A gilt-finished disc inset in the upper centre bears the inscription DAMBUSTERS 75th ANNIVERSARY in relief. The arcing legend OPERATION CHASTISE appears across the upper field, with DAM BREACHED inscribed along the lower exergue area. |
