Obverse description The obverse features a right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, as designed by Raphael David Maklouf, positioned in the upper right of the field. A central circular acrylic capsule is inset into the coin, containing loose genuine rubies, sapphires, and cubic zirconias that move freely within the enclosure. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the upper left, with COOK ISLANDS to the right and ONE DOLLAR along the lower arc, all separated by raised beaded borders. The date 2002 appears in the lower central field beneath the capsule. The contrasting proof finish highlights the deep mirror fields against the frosted lettering and effigy.
