The Solomon Islands gained the right to issue commemorative coinage through its status as an independent Commonwealth realm, and the 1995 coronation anniversary series was part of a broader wave of Pacific island issues marking 42 years since Elizabeth II's June 1953 ceremony at Westminster Abbey.
