Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse presents an alternative architectural elevation of Cologne Cathedral, depicting the full Gothic structure in high relief with emphasis on the soaring nave, flying buttresses, and the prominent single northern spire dominating the right half of the oval field. To the left, a detailed cross-section rendering of the cathedral's structural framework is shown in fine engraved lines. At the upper centre, a circular colored insert mirrors the obverse stained-glass depiction of the enthroned Virgin and Child in polychrome enamel-style coloring. The legend 'KÖLNER DOM' is inscribed along the upper arc of the field, with the silver fineness mark 'Ag 925' appearing in the lower left area of the field.

Aanvullende informatie

Cologne Cathedral took over 600 years to complete — begun in 1248, construction stalled for nearly three centuries before resuming in the 19th century, finally finishing in 1880. At that point it briefly held the title of tallest structure in the world before the Washington Monument surpassed it two years later. Niue has issued commemorative silver under licensing arrangements since the 1990s, functioning essentially as a mint-for-hire sovereign whose issues are designed for the collector market rather than circulation.
