Cook Islands has issued collector dollars under licensing arrangements for decades, with the numismatic program functioning largely as a revenue instrument rather than a genuine circulating currency. The Coelophysis, a slender theropod from the Late Triassic, was named the state fossil of New Mexico in 1981 after a mass accumulation of specimens was excavated at Ghost Ranch in the 1940s — one of the densest dinosaur bone beds ever found in North America.
