Niue has issued commemorative silver dollars tied to Central European architectural subjects since at least the 2010s, functioning essentially as a licensing arrangement — the Pacific island territory lends its issuing authority while the coins are designed, struck, and sold almost entirely to European collector markets. The Charles Bridge series belongs to this tradition, with the coins distributed primarily through Czech and Slovak numismatic dealers rather than anywhere near the Pacific.

The bridge itself was begun under Charles IV in 1357, and construction is recorded as having started at exactly 5:31 AM on July 9th — a date and time chosen by the king's astrologers for its numerological properties: 1-3-5-7-9-7-5-3-1.
