Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse, engraved by William Woodruff, commemorates the 40th anniversary of the Canadian National Flag. The central composition depicts the Parliament Hill clock tower (Peace Tower) flanked by fireworks bursting in celebration, with the Canadian flag prominently displayed and selectively plated in 24-karat gold to highlight its iconic maple leaf emblem. The anniversary dates and denomination legend are inscribed around the design, framing the patriotic scene within a polished field.

Aanvullende informatie

Issued to mark the 40th anniversary of the Canadian flag, adopted on February 15, 1965, after one of the most acrimonious parliamentary debates in Canadian history. Prime Minister Pearson's push to replace the Canadian Red Ensign consumed 37 days of filibuster before closure was invoked — an episode still referred to as the "Great Flag Debate."

The selective gold plating on this Royal Canadian Mint issue was applied to isolate the flag element against the frosted silver field, a finishing technique the RCM had refined through the late 1990s collector program.
