Additional information

Part of the RCM's ongoing wildlife series, this dollar was issued the same year the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada maintained the Burrowing Owl's designation as Endangered — a population that had collapsed from roughly 2,000 breeding pairs in the 1970s to fewer than 1,000 individuals by the time of striking. Saskatchewan holds the last meaningful breeding population in the country.
