Queen Ahhotep I ruled Egypt around 1560–1530 BC as regent during a critical phase of the Theban wars against the Hyksos. Her actual burial assemblage, discovered at Dra' Abu el-Naga' in 1859, included a gold bracelet decorated with scarabs and djed-pillar motifs — recovered in a coffin that the Luxor governor's men opened and stripped before Egyptologist Auguste Mariette could intervene. Mariette reportedly had to chase down a steamer on the Nile to recover what artifacts remained.
This coin is part of Fiji's long-running program of silver issues commemorating ancient jewelry, using the Pacific nation's sovereign status purely as a licensing mechanism for the numismatic market.
