Aanvullende informatie

Tuvalu's wildlife-themed bullion and commemorative program expanded rapidly in the early 2010s, largely as a revenue mechanism for the island nation — whose actual GDP relies heavily on the licensing of its .tv internet domain. The Black Rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis) was listed as Critically Endangered by the IUCN at the time of this issue, its wild population having collapsed by roughly 96% over the preceding half-century due to poaching and habitat loss.

Perth Mint struck this piece under contract, as it did the bulk of Tuvalu's commemorative output during this period.
