Struck as part of the Chinese Lunar calendar series issued through Cook Islands, which has served Pacific island territories as a vehicle for commemorative silver since the 1980s. The 2011 issue corresponds to the Year of the Rabbit — specifically the Black Rabbit, a designation within the sixty-year sexagenary cycle that last occurred in 1951.
