Black Bart — Charles Earl Bowles — robbed 28 Wells Fargo stagecoaches between 1875 and 1883 without firing a single shot, relying entirely on theatrical bluff. He was eventually caught not by a lawman but by a dropped handkerchief traced to a San Francisco laundry.
This issue belongs to the Perth Mint's "Infamous Outlaws" bullion series, which ran across several years and leaned heavily on American frontier mythology despite Australian production — an odd pairing that sold well into the U.S. collector market regardless.
