| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central composition depicting French President François Mitterrand and German Chancellor Helmut Kohl clasping hands in a gesture of Franco-German reconciliation, a wreath placed between them. Behind the two figures rises the distinctive lantern tower of the Douaumont Ossuary, the principal memorial to the Battle of Verdun, whose barrel-vaulted nave and chapel façade are rendered in the lower portion of the field. The arc legend BATTLE OF VERDUN curves across the upper field within a beaded inner border, and the denomination $1 appears in the lower exergue. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
The Battle of Verdun, fought between February and December 1916, was the longest single engagement on the Western Front — roughly 300,000 dead and nearly 700,000 casualties in total across ten months of attritional fighting in a sector barely fifteen kilometers wide. The centennial in 2016 prompted a wave of commemorative issues from issuers worldwide, the Solomon Islands among them.
At 0.5 grams, this is a fractional bullion piece aimed squarely at the collector market rather than anything approaching circulation.
