背面描述 A dynamic World War II combat scene rendered in high relief against a darkened field. In the foreground, two Allied Sherman tanks advance in close formation, each bearing a five-pointed star insignia on their turrets and hulls. Behind them, partially ruined stone buildings evoke a battle-scarred Belgian town. In the upper portion of the field, two Allied fighter aircraft bank in formation through the sky, conveying the combined arms nature of the engagement. The arc legend BATTLE OF THE MONS POCKET runs along the left periphery, while the date SEPTEMBER 1944 appears along the lower arc, commemorating the liberation operation in Belgium.

附加信息

The Battle of Mons, fought on 23 August 1914, was the first major action involving the British Expeditionary Force in the First World War. Vastly outnumbered by German forces, the BEF's trained riflemen delivered fire so rapid and accurate that German commanders initially reported facing machine guns. The "Mons Pocket" refers to the salient from which British troops conducted a fighting withdrawal — the opening move of the two-week Great Retreat to the Marne.

Niue has issued commemoratives of this type under licensing arrangements that have little connection to the events depicted beyond the revenue they generate for the territory.
