Additional information

Cook Islands has issued commemorative dollars under licensing arrangements since the 1970s, and by 2009 the program had expanded to hundreds of topographic and wildlife subjects with little connection to the islands themselves. Ayers Rock — the name still in common use internationally, though the site had been officially returned to its Aṉangu name Uluru since 1993 — was a reliable seller in the Pacific commemorative market.

Silver-plated copper at this weight occupies an awkward commercial category: priced above base-metal souvenirs but without the intrinsic value of a genuine silver coin.
