Additional information

This piece belongs to a long-running Australian predecimal coin replica series issued by Tuvalu, in which classic Commonwealth bronze types were reproduced in silver and given legal tender status under Tuvaluan authority. The original Australian halfpenny it replicates circulated from 1911 until decimalization in 1966, when it was demonetized along with the rest of the predecimal series. The copper plating on a .999 silver core is a deliberate nod to the bronze appearance of the circulating original.
