| Additional information |
The "Aureus Taurus" is part of a broader bullion-adjacent series issued by Niue under licensing arrangements that allowed private mints — in this case the Sunshine Minting facility — to use Niue's sovereign issuing authority to produce legal tender collectibles with no meaningful circulation history. The dollar face value is purely nominal; the coin was never intended to enter commerce in Niue or anywhere else.
Niue has been one of the more prolific issuers of this type of third-party licensed coinage since the early 2000s, a revenue mechanism for a territory of roughly 1,600 people with no domestic mint.
