Beschrijving keerzijde Polychrome color reproduction of the Archangel Gabriel set within a raised circular tondo at the centre of the square flan, derived from a Renaissance painting attributed to the Italian school. The archangel is depicted in three-quarter view, wearing richly ornamented red and green robes with gold trim, holding a white lily in his raised right hand and a globe in his left, with large brown wings partially visible behind him. A flowing white banner bearing the Latin inscription AVE GRATIA scrolls across the lower portion of the image. The circular color field is surrounded by an elaborately embossed silver border featuring scrolling acanthus motifs and beaded ornamentation at the outer edge of the square flan.

Aanvullende informatie

Niue has operated as a prolific licensing platform for commemorative silver since the 1990s, contracting foreign mints and bullion dealers to produce themed issues that bear its name largely as a jurisdictional convenience. The Cook Islands model pioneered this arrangement in the Pacific, and Niue followed. These coins circulate as legal tender in theory only — the face value bears no relationship to metal content or market price.

The Archangel Gabriel belongs to a broader angel series marketed primarily through European precious metals dealers. KM# 247 places it within a crowded Niuean catalog that by 2018 numbered in the hundreds of distinct types.
