Obverse description The obverse features the fourth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, depicted in right-facing profile bust with diadem and necklace, modelled by Ian Rank-Broadley whose initials IRB appear beneath the truncation. The effigy is set within a raised circular border against the square flan, with the Mint of Poland mintmark (mw) visible to the left of the portrait. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the left and NIUE 2018 along the right of the circular border, while 1 DOLLAR is inscribed along the lower arc. The fineness mark Ag 999 is inscribed in the lower-left corner of the square field outside the circular design.

Reverse description The reverse depicts a full-colour reproduction of the celebrated fresco Angel Playing the Lute by Melozzo da Forlì, originally painted circa 1480 to decorate the vault of the Church of the Twelve Holy Apostles in Rome. The angel is rendered in three-quarter view, wings unfurled, gazing downward with serene concentration while playing a lute, the vivid polychrome colourisation faithfully reproducing the warm ochres, blues, and flesh tones of the original Renaissance fresco. The composition fills the square flan, exploiting the format to accommodate the full sweep of the angelic figure and drapery. The image is presented without additional lettering on the reverse, allowing the artwork to dominate the field entirely.
