Reverse description High-relief portrait of Alfred Nobel facing three-quarters right, rendered with exceptional sculptural detail including his characteristic full beard and moustache. To the left of the portrait, the inscription 'ALFRED NOBEL' appears in two lines within the field. In the lower left, a bundle of dynamite sticks with a fuse is depicted in relief, referencing Nobel's most famous invention. The background field features radiating, shard-like fragments suggestive of an explosion, contrasting with the mirror-polished proof surface. A small Czech Mint mintmark appears in the lower left area of the field.

Additional information

Alfred Nobel's will — signed in Paris in 1895, just over a year before his death — shocked his family and the Swedish establishment alike. He had secretly redirected the bulk of his fortune, built largely on dynamite patents, to fund annual prizes for those who had "conferred the greatest benefit to mankind." The executors spent years untangling the legal disputes that followed before the Nobel Foundation was formally established in 1900.

Niue has issued commemorative silver in this format extensively under licensing arrangements, with dozens of portrait subjects across the series.
