Additional information

Part of a British Virgin Islands commemorative series on Russian tsars, this issue marks the bicentennial of Alexander I's pivotal role in the 1813 campaigns following Napoleon's catastrophic retreat from Moscow. It was Alexander who pushed for the allied pursuit into Western Europe against the cautious advice of his own generals — a decision that ultimately brought Russian forces to Paris in 1814.
