The portrait is rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished field. The legend QUEEN ELIZABETH II curves along the upper periphery, while the denomination 1 DOLLAR, issuer TUVALU, and date 2006 are distributed around the lower portion of the coin. The designer's initials RDM appear truncated at the base of the portrait. |

| Reverse description | The left portion of the reverse features a bold raised bust of Dutch explorer Abel Janszoon Tasman, depicted with a beard and period costume with ornate detailing, occupying the left and lower-left field. At center-right, set within a circular polished recess, is a colorized depiction of Tasman's Dutch sailing vessel rendered in full color with red-and-white Dutch flags flying from the masts, shown sailing upon stylized blue waters. Surrounding the central vignette is a detailed compass rose motif with cardinal and intercardinal direction markers (N, NE, E, SE, etc.) and geometric triangular decorative elements. The curved legend 1642 DISCOVERY OF VAN DIEMAN'S LAND arcs above the ship, while the name ABEL TASMAN appears on a ribbon banner at the base of the design. |
