Australia's lunar series has run long enough that the Mouse represents the second full cycle through the Chinese zodiac — the Perth Mint having first issued a Mouse dollar in 1996. The gilding on these pieces is applied selectively to isolate the primary motif against the frosted silver field, a process refined considerably since the first gilded lunar issues of the early 2000s.
The 6th portrait of Elizabeth II, by Jody Clark, was introduced across Commonwealth coinage in 2015.
