The Great Aussie Coin Hunt series — now in its third iteration — was designed explicitly to drive circulation engagement, borrowing from the same playbook as the UK's 50p collecting craze. The Royal Australian Mint released the A-to-Z alphabet set in waves through participating banks and retailers, with certain letters proving far harder to find than others simply due to uneven distribution rather than any difference in mintage. "Y" was among the letters collectors reported pulling from circulation least often in the third series, though the RAM has never published per-letter production breakdowns.
