Obverse description Sixth portrait effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II facing right, diademed with the King George IV State Diadem and wearing the Victorian Coronation Necklace, set within a small circle positioned at the apex of the triangular field. Below the royal effigy, a detailed scene depicts the ill-fated Zuytdorp shipwreck with sailors attempting to escape aboard a lifeboat amid turbulent seas. In the lower register of the triangle, a skeletal figure rests on the ocean floor accompanied by scattered coins, evoking the tragic fate of the crew. The legend ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2020 ONE DOLLAR and the engraver's initials JC appear within the field.

Reverse description Central depiction of the Dutch VOC vessel Zuytdorp under full sail, rendered in fine detail and surrounded by decorative maritime ornaments consistent with the baroque cartographic style of the early 18th century. The overall design composition is oriented in an inverted manner relative to the obverse, with all inscriptions and design elements appearing upside down when the coin is viewed from the obverse orientation. The date of the shipwreck, 1712, appears prominently alongside the ship's name ZUYTDORP, with the silver specifications completing the legend.
