Additional information

QANTAS was founded in outback Queensland in 1920 — originally Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services — making 2020 the airline's centenary year. The Royal Australian Mint issued this piece as part of a broader commemorative program marking that anniversary, though the celebrations were sharply undercut by the COVID-19 pandemic, which had grounded virtually the entire QANTAS fleet by March of the same year the coin was struck.
