Perth Mint's annual silver koala bullion series has run since 1987, with the design changed each year — a deliberate strategy to encourage repeat purchasing from collectors who might otherwise treat the coin as pure metal. The 2022 issue uses the sixth definitive portrait of Elizabeth II by Jody Clark, introduced to Australian coinage in 2019 and the last portrait authorized before her death in September of that year.
