The "Great Southern Land" series from Perth Mint leans into Australia's long tradition of embedding natural materials into collector coinage — opal inlay work of this kind sources material primarily from the Lightning Ridge and Coober Pedy fields, the latter supplying the majority of the world's precious opal. The .9999 fine silver specification places this issue at four-nines purity, a standard Perth adopted aggressively in the 2010s to differentiate its collector output from the three-nines floor used by most sovereign mints. Elizabeth II's sixth portrait, by Jody Clark, was introduced to Australian coinage in 2019.
