| Obverse description | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the George IV State Diadem and a pearl necklace with drop earring, as rendered in Jody Clark's sixth definitive portrait. The legend ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA arcs around the upper field, while the denomination 1 DOLLAR appears at the lower right and the purity and weight inscription 1oz 9999 Ag is positioned at the lower left. The date 2020 is inscribed below the truncation, and the engraver's initials JC appear on the truncation. The coin displays the deep mirror fields and frosted relief characteristic of proof striking. |

| Additional information |
Australia's commemorative dollar program has issued so many WWII-themed pieces over the decades that individual releases risk blurring together, but the 75th anniversary year of 2020 carried specific weight: it marked the last major milestone at which significant numbers of living veterans could still participate in official commemorations. By 2020, the youngest Australian servicemembers of the Pacific War were in their mid-nineties.
The Raphael Maklouf-derived sixth portrait of Elizabeth II, introduced for Australian coinage in 2019, appears here in one of its earliest commemorative applications.
