Additional information

The Corroboree Frog dollar was part of the Royal Australian Mint's "Mutant Mint" Zoo Series, a circulation-quality program aimed squarely at younger collectors. The Southern Corroboree Frog — one of the most acutely endangered vertebrates on the planet — had a wild population estimated at fewer than 50 individuals by the early 2010s, with captive breeding programs at Taronga and Melbourne Zoos effectively keeping the species from extinction. The coin's pad-printed color application was still a relatively novel technique for Australian circulation coinage at the time.
