The denomination $1 appears in the upper field, the inscription SURFING is incused across the central design, and the Perth Mint mintmark P is positioned within the geometric frame at centre right. The designer's initials NM appear at the lower rim. |

Part of the Perth Mint's "Young Collectors" series aimed at drawing children into the hobby, this dollar was pad-printed rather than struck with coloured inks — a process the Perth Mint had been refining since the early 2000s and which repeatedly drew scrutiny from purists questioning whether printed coins belong in a numismatic catalog at all. The aluminium bronze substrate is standard circulation issue spec, but these were never intended for the till.
