Part of Perth Mint's "Young Collectors" series aimed at introducing children to Australian coinage, this dollar uses pad printing — a process more common to industrial product decoration than coin production — to apply color directly onto the struck surface. The technique was still relatively novel for circulating-denomination issues at the time of production.
