Additional information

The Royal Australian Mint has produced a lunar dollar series tied to the Chinese zodiac since the early 2000s, targeting both circulation and the substantial collector market within Australia's Chinese-Australian community. The Rabbit year issue of 2011 was struck for general circulation as well as in collector formats — an unusual dual role that kept mintages high but collector premiums modest.

The 4th portrait of Elizabeth II, by Ian Rank-Broadley, had been in use on Australian coinage since 1999.
