Beschrijving keerzijde The central field depicts a plump pig lying on its back in a playful pose, surrounded by an ornate composition of blossoming peony flowers and leafy branches evocative of traditional Chinese decorative art. To the right, a large round Chinese cash coin bearing auspicious inscriptions is prominently rendered, while the Chinese character 猪 (pig) appears to the left amid further floral motifs. The legend ONE DOLLAR is inscribed along the upper periphery, and 2019 YEAR OF THE PIG curves along the lower rim, the entire design engraved by Bronwyn King.

Aanvullende informatie

Australia's Lunar coin program has run since 1995 across multiple mints and formats, but the RAM's contribution has focused on the circulating dollar series — making these among the few Lunar-themed coins that could, in principle, turn up in change. The Pig is the twelfth and final sign of the Chinese zodiac cycle, meaning the 2019 issue closed a full twelve-year rotation that began with the Rat in 2008.

"Pig on its Back" distinguishes this from at least one other RAM dollar issued the same year depicting the animal in a different pose — a deliberate collector variant strategy the mint has employed across several Lunar releases to drive completionist demand.
