| Obverse description | Fourth portrait effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, rendered in fine relief against a deeply mirrored proof field. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the upper left periphery and AUSTRALIA along the upper right, with the date 2012 at lower right and the denomination 1 DOLLAR at the base. | Reverse description | A highly detailed Chinese celestial dragon coils dynamically within a central circular frame, its scaled body, clawed feet, and whiskered head rendered in finely engraved relief against a frosted mirror proof field. Four curved panels radiating from the central medallion each contain stylised flame and cloud motifs evoking traditional East Asian decorative imagery. The Chinese character 龙 (dragon) appears prominently to the right of the central roundel. The date 2012 is inscribed at the top of the field, while the inscription YEAR OF THE DRAGON occupies the lower portion of the design in three lines. |
