Issued by the Perth Mint under license in 2011, this dollar is part of a broader Australian program of coloured circulating commemoratives that began gaining traction in the late 2000s. The Wiggles, formed in Sydney in 1991, had by this point become one of the most commercially successful children's entertainment acts in Australian export history, with substantial North American and UK touring revenue. The pad-printed colour application — applied post-strike rather than through enamel or cloisonné — was the Perth Mint's preferred method for keeping production costs compatible with face-value release.
