Additional information

Part of New Zealand's ongoing dinosaur series, this coin commemorates titanosaurs — the sauropod clade whose fossils have been found on every continent, including Antarctica. New Zealand itself has no known non-avian dinosaur fossil record to speak of, which makes the subject choice a curatorial decision rather than a national heritage one. The Reserve Bank has leaned heavily on the collectibles market since the 1990s, issuing themed silver dollars well outside any domestic circulation purpose.
