The Great Aussie Coin Hunt was a circulation program launched by the Royal Australian Mint in 2019, releasing 26 lettered dollar coins — one for each letter of the alphabet — each paired with an object or concept tied to Australian identity. The campaign was a deliberate effort to drive public engagement with coinage at a time when cash transactions in Australia had been declining steadily for years. Millions of each letter were struck and released through supermarket change, making the hunt genuinely accessible rather than a collector-only exercise.
"D" was assigned to the dingo. Completing a full A–Z set in circulated condition proved harder than the mintage figures suggest — distribution was uneven across states.
