Reverse description The reverse features a dramatic high-relief scene inspired by Peter Jackson's film The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, depicting the fearsome dragon Smaug in the right portion of the field, his scaled head rendered in meticulous detail against the dark polished background, with a diminutive armoured figure standing before the stone walls of the Lonely Mountain in the left middle ground. Selective gold plating highlights the arched upper legend and the lower register of treasure-gold mounds, contrasting with the frosted silver of the central design. The denomination $1 appears to the left of the central scene, and the copyright mark ©WBEI is inscribed to the lower right. The curved legend MIDDLE-EARTH – NEW ZEALAND arcs across the upper border within the gold-plated band.
