| Obverse description | The fourth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, modelled by Ian Rank-Broadley, is depicted in right-facing profile occupying the central field. The Queen wears the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara and a pearl drop earring, rendered with fine detail characteristic of the Rank-Broadley portrait. The encircling legend reads ELIZABETH II to the upper left and AUSTRALIA 2009 to the right, all in raised Latin letters. The engraver's initials IRB appear in small capitals beneath the truncation of the neck. The mirror-like proof field provides a sharp contrast to the finely frosted effigy. |
