Additional information

Part of the Perth Mint's long-running Australian Opal series, this issue incorporates a naturally occurring opal inlay — not synthetic — sourced domestically, which means no two examples are identical in color play or pattern. The Rough Scaled Python, Morelia carinata, is native to a small range in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, one of the most geographically isolated snake populations on the continent. Its restricted habitat made it largely unknown to science until 1981.
