Part of Perth Mint's "Treasures of Australia" series, this issue celebrates the Kimberley region of Western Australia — one of the most geologically ancient landscapes on Earth, with formations dating back over 1.8 billion years. The pad-printing technique, applied over struck silver, allows photographic-quality color reproduction directly onto the coin surface without the tonal limitations of traditional enameling.
Pad printing on bullion-weight silver remained a relatively niche production method at the time; Perth had been refining the process since the early 2000s to reduce edge bleed and adhesion failures that plagued early colorized issues.
