| 正面描述 | The obverse features the fourth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, modelled by Ian Rank-Broadley, depicted as a right-facing diademed and draped bust with curled hair adorned with a floral tiara. The engraver's initials IRB appear incuse on the truncation of the bust. The legend ELIZABETH II is disposed along the left arc of the field, while AUSTRALIA 2004 curves along the upper right, and ONE DOLLAR is inscribed along the lower arc. The design is rendered in high-relief proof quality against a mirrored field on the equilateral curve heptagonal flan. |

The "Imperial Test Dollar" designation refers to an experimental striking program the Royal Australian Mint conducted in the early 2000s to assess whether a smaller, lighter silver dollar format could viably replace the existing circulation dollar in a bullion or collector capacity. The 2004 Masterpieces in Silver sets were the primary vehicle for distributing these test pieces to the public.
The weight and dimensions deliberately mirror the proposed specifications rather than any existing circulating coin, making this one of the few Australian issues where the physical parameters themselves are the historical document.
