Obverse description The obverse features the fourth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, modelled by Ian Rank-Broadley, depicted as a right-facing diademed and draped bust with curled hair adorned with a floral tiara. The engraver's initials IRB appear incuse on the truncation of the bust. The legend ELIZABETH II is disposed along the left arc of the field, while AUSTRALIA 2004 curves along the upper right, and ONE DOLLAR is inscribed along the lower arc. The design is rendered in high-relief proof quality against a mirrored field on the equilateral curve heptagonal flan.
