Obverse description The obverse features a bimetallic design with a miniature fourth-portrait effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley facing right, wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara, set within the copper centre above a larger rendition of the first portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Mary Gillick, as originally depicted on the Australian penny from 1953 to 1964. The legend ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2004 appears in the outer silver ring, accompanied by the inscription ELIZABETH·II·DEI·GRATIA·REGINA·F:D: and the denomination 1 DOLLAR distributed around the field.
