Obverse description Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, rendered in Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth definitive portrait. The Queen's mature bust is depicted with fine detail in hair and jewellery. The peripheral legend reads ELIZABETH II to the upper left and AUSTRALIA to the upper right, with the date 1998 at lower right. The engraver's initials IRB appear incuse below the truncation of the neck. The mirrored proof fields provide strong contrast against the frosted relief of the portrait.
